What was said was not a chattering flower that started talking, but a woman who understood social etiquette. People who go abroad often know a little bit about social skills. They know what is the friendship of hosting, when they release their goodwill, and communicate with strangers in a non-hypocritical manner. They can retain the corners of themselves and know how to accept the smoothness of others, because mature travelers know that just a smile is enough to calm the distrust between people.

Taste may not be directly related to substance. Really tasteful women, beautiful is of course, because they can dress up. (2011) I recently discovered the top ten most profitable supermodels in the world that three of them from Brazil, and the Brazilian girls are really charming. It is a pity that no Asian girl or African girl can be ranked in the top ten yet. I heard that there are Liu Wen, Lv Yan, etc. from China. They are tall, not to mention, and their unique oriental faces. They should be able to compete with European faces. I hoped that one day, the world can get rid of the aesthetics defined by the West and have proud standards of independence.

Zara model who has unique beauty appreciated by the top designer, had faced brutal criticism by her own people. Why would Chinese people embrace western appearance (big eyes, straight nose) more than their own beauty? As a Oriental girl who’s born in HK, I appreciate my own face because firstly it’s a gift from my parents, and secondly a Chinese model should look Chinese! What’s wrong and shameful with that? We should be proud of our outlooks. The true power lies with accepting differences in a harmonious way.

美 Beauty

爱美是女人的天性，尤其是花样年华的少女时代，应该好好绽放光芒。
但有近视的女生真的有烦恼，戴隐形眼镜怕感染细菌，做矫正视力手术成本高，难道戴眼镜的女人就没那么漂亮，减少魅力了吗？

Loving beauty is a woman's nature, especially the girlhood in her fancy years, and it should shine well. But girls with nearsightedness are really troubled, worrying about infection of bacteria by wearing contact lenses on the one hand, and the expensive cost of corrective vision surgery on the other hand. Is wearing glasses not so beautiful, reducing woman’s charm? 

I don’t think so! Wearing glasses has its own characteristics and charm:)

妻比夫瘦 Wife is thinner than her husband

The secret of a happy marriage is probably not complicated: as long as the wife is thinner than her husband. A new study points out that if a woman ’s body mass index (BMI) is lower than that of her partner, both partners will be happier and more likely to maintain a happy marriage. Relativity of body weight Researchers from the University of Tennessee selected 169 couples under the age of 35 to fill in the questionnaire every 6 months for 4 years. The study found that men with a higher BMI (weight (kg) divided by height (m) squared) than their wives are happier in marriage; and women with a lower BMI than their husbands are significantly happier than other women. Researchers believe that this is because men generally believe that slim partners are more attractive, and are therefore willing to maintain relationships; slim women will feel that partners still love themselves, are more confident and feel loved, and are therefore happier. Researchers speculate that men pay more attention to their partners' appearance and weight than women, and their husband's dissatisfaction with body shape may appear at the beginning of the marriage, which makes his wife increasingly unhappy. However, the results of the study show that the main influence on the relationship between the couple is relative weight. Women with different body types can have a happy relationship as long as they find a suitable partner. It is not necessary to be slim. Experts also pointed out that men are more capable in marriage, such as income, education, height or weight, which will make women feel more secure and both men and women will be happier.

Lab 7: Station Fire and My Map Interpretation

The Station Fire extended northwards and in uphill direction. When I researched from Wikipedia, I am shocked to know that the fire was the largest and deadliest of the California wildfires in 2009, burning 251 sq miles. The Station Fire burned on the slopes of Mount Wilson, threatening numerous television, radio and cellular telephone antennas on the summit, as well as the Mount Wilson Observatory. It started in the Angeles National Forest near the U.S. Forest Service ranger station on the Angeles Crest Highway. The blaze threatened 12,000 structures in the National Forest and the nearby communities of La Cañada Flintridge, Glendale, Acton, La Crescenta, Littlerock and Altadena, as well as the Sunland and Tujunga neighborhoods of the City of Los Angeles (Wikipedia).

My hypothesis for this incident is that fire tends to move towards uphill direction. As we can see from the temporal pattern from August 29 to September 2 on the map above, the fire expands its size from the lower to upper elevation. This can be proved by the hillshade which provides us a visualization of the slopes and aspects. One possible reason for the upward movement of the fire is that warm air and gas tend to rise. It is because they have lower density and thus less heavy. Besides lower density of warm air, the dry weather of California also facilitates extension of fire.  

In addition, the fire happened next to the network of highway. Thus, there might be a chance that a driver threw out his or her used cigarette from the car, which burned the nearby dry vegetation and caused the fire. Moreover, Relief work for the people who are suffered from the fire would be convenient. It is because there are lots of hospitals and freeways around the area. 

According to the map, I also indicate that the fire covered Angeles National Forest and some LA country parks. This implies that the fire damage lots of vegetations. Therefore, it caused tremendous environmental detriment. According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, "the secondary effects of wildfires, including erosion, landslides, introduction of invasive species, and changes in water quality, are often more disastrous than the fire itself." Lost vegetation and exposure of bare ground increase the risk of flooding and debris flow. "Sediment, burned debris, and chemicals affect water quality" (Suite101).

Furthermore, wildfires worsen air quality. When inhaled, smoke and ash can cause negative and lasting health effects, including lung disease. On the other hand, wildfires may have some environmental advantages. The Department of the Interior mentioned that "Many species depend on wildfires to improve habitat, recycle nutrients, and maintain diverse communities." However, the destructions related to the fire outweigh benefits. The chemicals used to battle fires are also perilous to natural world (Suite101).
